Forgiveness...

When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free...
life is good!

How many of us have not at one time or another held a grudge against another person be it for whatever reason?  I am no exception to that....but as get older I have learnt that the only person this really affects is the person holding the grudge.  Many a times the other person has no clue that a "problem" even exists.

Many a times the reason we hold a grudge is because we are insecure of ourselves...but I have learnt a long time ago that nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.  Self
confidence is something that comes with age and experience.

I have learnt that forgiving someone makes life so much easier..forgiving does not necessarily mean we forget, but at least it means we can move forward and concentrate on things that really matter.

Lots of my topics are inspired by real life people and by things I see on TV that are also real life issues.  The other night I saw a program where the underlying theme was a grudge that lasted so long and in the end neither parties were able to tell the other what was really in their hearts.  It was a family matter...at the end of the show one died and the other was left with regrets....what a terrible feeling that must be.  If only....those must be the two saddest words in the world.

I have learnt to live without regrets and the times I have made mistakes (too many to count), I have learnt to say I am sorry and really mean it.  I have learnt it is better to be friends and have a relationship of some kind than to later look back and say...if only I had done things differently...  With each day I continue to learn more and more....

Today I say to you also...don't live holding a grudge because one day it might be too late.  I have no regrets in my life and not because I have not made mistakes.  I have and too many to count.  I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person...this does not mean that there have not been  moments in my life I wouldn't have lived or done things differently....hard times builds a persons character and shapes their lives forever...be it good or bad.

I would much rather have regrets about not doing what people said, than regretting not doing what my heart led me to and wondering what life had been like if I'd just been myself...

About Heart Attacks
There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.


Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens:
- immediately dissolve 2 aspirins in your mouth

- and swallow them with a bit of water



Afterwards :


CALL 911

- say "heart attack!"

- say that you have taken 2 aspirins..

- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by

- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and....

A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life can be saved!

If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.  The reason is that aspirin has a 24 hour "half-life".  Therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.

FYI aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest...(years) when it get old it smells like vinegar.

Just remember While doctors try to prevent coronary disease by treating high blood pressure and high cholesterol, it's not 100 percent effective. If there are warning symptoms like angina with exercise, there is enough time to see a doctor and get started on effective treatments that reduce risk. Having a heart attack causes permanent damage, even if it doesn't kill you.

Cellphones A 'Possible' Carcinogen — Like Coffee

To be happy in this world, first you need a cell phone and then you need an airplane. Then you're truly wireless...
 
We all keep hearing every so often that the use of cell phones causes cancer.  Well last night I saw another bit of news on TV regarding the same topic.  I am not sure if there is any actual evidence of this but, this is what the news reported....

A respected international panel of scientists says cellphones are possible cancer-causing agents, putting them in the same category as the pesticide DDT, gasoline engine exhaust and coffee.

Classifying agents as "possibly carcinogenic" doesn't mean they automatically cause cancer and some experts said the ruling shouldn't change people's cellphone habits.


"Anything is a possible carcinogen," said Donald Berry, a professor of biostatistics at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. He was not involved in the WHO cancer group's assessment. "This is not something I worry about and it will not in any way change how I use my cellphone," he said — speaking from his cellphone.

Anyone's risk for cancer depends on many factors, from genetic makeup to the amount and length of time of an exposure...it seems like this panel of investigators believe that cellphones are probably linked to brain tumors....but, due to limited evidence this has not been proven.  These scientists acknowledged that they  found some threads of evidence telling them how cancers might occur, but there were  too many gaps and uncertainties.

Last year, results of a large study found no clear link between cellphones and cancer. But some advocacy groups contend the study raised serious concerns because it showed a hint of a possible connection between very heavy phone use and glioma, a rare but often deadly form of brain tumor. However, the numbers in that subgroup weren't sufficient to make the case.

The study was controversial because it began with people who already had cancer and asked them to recall how often they used their cellphones more than a decade ago.


In about 30 other studies done in Europe, New Zealand and the U.S., patients with brain tumors have not reported using their cellphones more often than unaffected people.
Because cellphones are so popular, it may be impossible for experts to compare cellphone users who develop brain tumors with people who don't use the devices. According to a survey last year, the number of cellphone subscribers worldwide has hit 5 billion, or nearly three-quarters of the global population.


People's cellphone habits have also changed dramatically since the first studies began years ago and it's unclear if the results of previous research would still apply today.


Since many cancerous tumors take decades to develop, experts say it's impossible to conclude cellphones have no long-term health risks. The studies conducted so far haven't tracked people for longer than about a decade.

Some experts recommended people use a headset or earpiece if they are worried about the possible health dangers of cellphones. "If there is a risk, most of it goes away with a wireless earpiece"

The American Cancer Society has estimated that only about 6 percent of cancers are related to environmental causes and most of that is on-the-job occupational exposure

Conclusion

You should be very restrictive with using mobile phones and cordless phones. Reduce the usage to very few and brief calls. Instead, use landlines as much as possible.   It's no wonder Arvid rarely turns on his cell phone anymore he does not like using it.  He much rather receive calls on our home number.  He really believes this to be true about cell phones causing cancer:))  As someone said "as you become more clear about who you really are, you'll be better able to decide what is best for you - at least the first time around..."

People are very protective of their cell phones, how it's used, where it's used and how much it costs. It has become a very personal issue for a whole lot of people in this country...

Summer In CHICAGO!

Arvid, Brutus and I are just very happy to be going home to Chicago..we love the city and we are looking forward to a wonderful summer in Chicago...this is going to be a great summer!

We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have....

Choices...

 If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought...
Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us...

Last night I saw a show on TV that left a too vivid impression on me. Can't get over people's behaviour.... as a result, I have been awake since 3am and as many of you know that's the perfect time for hundreds of thoughts running through your mind.  Laying in bed I have been thinking of so many different things and one in particular is about rifts/disagreements among people and wondering why? what's the reason? 
Obviously there are hundreds, but a common theme that has been playing through my mind is simply 3 reasons...

1. JEALOUSY, sometimes defined as the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that the person values.  We have all gone through some sort of jealousy at some time of our lives, as a much younger and insecure woman many years ago I went through this phase, but as time went by and I matured I learnt that it is OK to be a little jealous as long as that jealousy does not consume you all day long to the point where you become a very angry, hostile and down right mean/nasty person.  Then that is no longer just your typical jealousy...it has now become some kind of obsessive hatred/jealousy....

Jealousy often consists of a combination of presenting emotions such as anger, sadness, resentment and disgust.  I do believe that some sort of jealousy is OK, actually normal.  It begins from the time we are kids and it is a very common human emotion, but like I said when it is taken to extreme measures it becomes a very horrible trait.  It consumes some to the point this is all they think about...common signs of jealousy are:

Fear of loss
Suspicion of or anger about a perceived betrayal
Low self-esteem and sadness over perceived loss
Uncertainty and loneliness
Fear of losing an important person to another
Distrust
A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity...

2 ENVY, not to be confused with jealousy.  Envy consists of : 
Feelings of inferiority
Longing
Resentment of circumstances
Ill will towards envied person often accompanied by guilt about these feelings
Motivation to improve
Desire to possess the attractive rival's qualities
Disapproval of feelings





We have all been guilty at some time also of feeling many of these...but the problem lies when we cannot move on and see beyond them.   Our lives can lose focus and sooner or later these negative thought will consume a person to the point that they cannot function as "normal" any longer.  This obviously would be an extreme case.
Envy is a symptom of lack of appreciation of our own uniqueness and self worth. Each of us has something to give that no one else has...


Least but not last is
3. MONEY, I will be the first to say that money makes your life more comfortable, much easier to do the things you like and it gives you a kind of status be it good or bad.  Having money has it's merits, but at the end of the day as Bob Marley said to his son Ziggy Marley just before dying. "money can't buy you life"  I have seen the good money can do and I have seen the other side as well.  It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven't lost the things that money can't buy...



Lately on TV these 3 topics have been repeating it seems constantly.  Every other show I watch deals with mainly families fighting over money, or being jealous and envious of each other.  I don't consider myself beyond these emotions, but I would like to think that I would never stoop to the level of some people.  I come from a large family.  5 girls and let me tell you we have been through all of these at some time or another in our lives.  As we get older we hopefully become more aware of what is important in life...we all have choices....I like to think I have made the right choices. 
 


There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative....
To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are...

Losing A Loved One...

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal...

Today I am very sad.  Someone we knew and liked very much has died. Too many emotions are going through my mind right now and I sure don't know how to exactly cope with it.

Losing someone dear to you is like nothing you can imagine.  Only the person who has actually lost a loved one can truly relate to this.  Many years ago I was in the same boat.  My first husband died in a motorcycle accident.  To say I was totally unprepared is stupid...who is ever prepared for this?  One minute he was leaving to go ride his motorcycle...hours after I was calling every hospital, highway patrol everything and everyone you can think of because you see he had not shown up at home as scheduled and not several hours after.

When the police officer knocked on my door I just knew...all I said was "he's dead isn't he" and the officer said "yes".  Needless to say my world as I knew it shattered to pieces.  Today I can imagine our friends wife's world also being shattered to pieces and nothing anyone can say or do will ever put it back together.

For me it was as if the world had ended.  I can only imagine what "Tammy" is going through right.  She's probably thinking this is just a joke...a bad one that is.  Then she is probably screaming at God asking him WHY???  How could you do this to us when there are so many others out there that are bad people that surely do not deserve to live...I know I did that...hundreds and hundreds of time.  No use.  The one you loved was still dead! 

I remember picking up the phone and calling everyone I knew and telling them.  You see I lived in California at the time and all of my family was elsewhere.  Like Tammy I spent that first night all by myself...to say you cry yourself to sleep is an understatement.  After a while there are no more tears and loneliness and grief become your partners for a very , very long time.

In the beginning there are people all around you offering words of sympathy, trying to help you out in any and everyway possible...each is doing their best to make you feel better, but all you feel is NOTHING!!   What others have to understand is that the person going through this grieving time has to do it their way...of course it helps to have support of friends and family.  Had it not been for my family I am not sure what would have become of me. 

This person that died was a good friend...good enough that I have dedicated my blog to them.  All I can say is that in a situation like this you have to take it one day at a time.  From this point on it is baby steps.  There will be days when it seems you are moving backwards rather than forwards.  Do not worry.  This happens, just don't sink into that depression that seems to want to swallow you up forever...fight it.  Easy to say.  Harder to do, but take it from me not impossible.  There will be good days again although right now you surely do not believe that.

When Paul died and I was told that one day things would get better I looked at that person and said NEVER!  It has taken me years and year to get to where I am right now.  Everyone is different.  For me it was my family that never let me give up...trust me at times you just want to say enough, roll up like a ball and just let things happen. 

Everyday is a new challenge.  Waking up was a challenge...just making it through the day was exhausting.  Tammy will need all the friends and family to give her support and keep her positive.  One of my favorite things anyone ever said to me was "time does not take away the pain but makes it more bearable"  Today I can say that time is a good healer.  You do not believe this right now because the grief is too new...but trust me time heals.

Chicago

I give you Chicago. It is not London and Harvard. It is not Paris and buttermilk. It is American in every chitling and sparerib. It is alive from snout to tail...  

It's almost that time of the year again....yeah! Very soon we will be going to Chicago and all I can say is that I can't wait.  We have been looking forward to this for such a long time and FINALLY the time is near.

Arvid, I and Brutus have a very good life if I may say so.  We enjoy our times together ALWAYS and always have a good time together no matter what we do or where we go.

We are fortunate to live in Florida during the winters.  This you can't beat and in the summers we call Chicago home. As someone once said and I now repeat...I adore Chicago. It is the pulse of America.  I have lived in NYC, California and New Jersey among others and I will have to say that today my favorite city is Chicago.  The people are friendly, the food is good the music is excellent...it is everything we love....unfortunately we won't live there all year long because their winters are HARSH!   In between these two places we also call Eleuthera, Bahamas home.

Life in Chicago is just one exteded vacation....can't wait for it to begin!

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.....

Weekends:)

Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless....

Like most of you I look forward to our weekend always with great anticipation and excitement.  Arvid and I are very spontaneous people so for us everyday holds something unexpected.  The weekdays are fairly predictably, mostly work, work and work, but comes the weekend we just absolutely do whatever we please.

We may decide on the spur of the moment to go visit another State or country just because we saw for instance a car, an apartment or something that caught our fancy.  We do not necessarily have to buy it, but the fun lies in the trip itself.

Not so long ago we visited the Dominican Republic because we taught we might have been interested in property there.  We were not, but we still had a blast and that's what matters.

We also went to Myrtle Beach for the same reason were not interested in anything there, but ended up having a good time and discovering a place we had never been to.

Our spur of the moment trip took us to Eleuthera in 2004.  Next thing you know we have a home there...we enjoy doing these kinds of stuff and to me the adventure part is what makes our life so exciting.  It always starts with "what shall we do this weekend"?

Looking forward to the coming weekend because I will be visiting my sister and family in Puerto Rico.  It is going to be an absolutely fun time.  All of us except for one sister, Rima will be there.  Can't wait to see everyone and just do absolutely NOTHING for a change, but just be with my family! 

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths...

Beauty Foods For Younger-Looking Skin

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.....


How many of us have not just sat in the sun and baked when we were much younger without giving a thought to the effects the sun would have on our skin later on in our lives...?

Strawberries:  We all know strawberries are delicious, but they are also nutritious, and ideally should be a part of everyone's daily diet. Eating more vitamin C-rich foods, such as strawberries, may help to ward off wrinkles and age-related drynessThe USDA recommends that every American eat at least five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily, but unfortunately, most people don't even come close to that. 25 Manners Every Kid Should Know By Age 9....

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use...

Being a child today seems much more challenging than when I was a child. Long time ago, it seems as if parents had more free time on their hands not so much today it seems.  Both my parents worked when I was a child, yet they always found the time to teach us right and wrong and to be respectful and mindful of others..

Sometimes kids(adults also) just don't realize it's impolite to interrupt, pick their nose, or loudly observe that the lady walking in front of them has a large behind. And in the hustle and bustle of daily life, busy moms and dads don't always have the time to focus on etiquette. But if you reinforce these 25 must-do manners, you'll raise a polite, kind, respectful, well-liked child.-

Manner #1
When asking for something, say "Please."

Manner #2
When receiving something, say "Thank you."

Manner #3
Do not interrupt grown-ups who are speaking with each other unless there is an emergency. They will notice you and respond when they are finished talking.

If you do need to get somebody's attention right away, the phrase "excuse me" is the most polite way for you to enter the conversation.

When you have any doubt about doing something, ask permission first. It can save you from many hours of grief later.

If you come across a parent, a teacher, or a neighbor working on something, ask if you can help. If they say "yes," do so -- you may learn something new.

When an adult asks you for a favor, do it without grumbling and with a smile.

When someone helps you, say "thank you." That person will likely want to help you again. This is especially true with teachers!  WHY DO SOME FIND SAYING THANK YOU SUCH A DIFFICULT THING!!!?

Use eating utensils properly. If you are unsure how to do so, ask your parents to teach you or watch what adults do.

Keep a napkin on your lap; use it to wipe your mouth when necessary.

Don't reach for things at the table; ask to have them passed.

A man's own manner and character is what most becomes him...Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners....

Boat Story:)

Humor is a reminder that no matter how high the throne one sits on, one sits on one's bottom.....

They say the two happiest days in life are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it!!

Well, here's a good BOAT story!!

Joe and John were identical twins. Joe owned an old dilapidated boat and kept pretty much to himself. One day he rented out his boat to a group of out-of-staters who sank it. Joe spent all day trying to salvage as much stuff as he could and was out of touch all that day and most of the evening.

Unknown to him, his brother John's wife died suddenly. When he got back on shore he went into town to pick up a few things at the grocery.

A kind old neighbor woman mistook him for John and said:

'I'm so sorry for your loss. You must feel terrible.'
Joe, thinking she was talking about his boat said: 'Hell no! Fact is I'm sort of glad to be rid of her.
She was a rotten old thing from the beginning.
Her bottom was all shriveled up and she smelled like old dead fish.
She was always holding water.
She had a bad crack in the back and a pretty big hole in the front too.

Every time I used her, her hole got bigger and she leaked like crazy.
I guess what finally finished her off was when I rented her to those four guys looking for a good time.
I warned them that she wasn't very good and smelled bad. But they wanted her anyway.
The darn fools tried to get in her all at one time and she split right up the middle!'
The old woman fainted.

I think the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humor in it.....
