Why live for tomorrow and not be enjoying today?
What a wonderful time we are having here in our little piece of paradise....the days go by so smoothly....here we are so very atuned to one another. It is a completely different life than the one we have in Florida. Nothing wrong with our Florida lifestyle...but somehow here in Eleuthera we seem to have more time for each other, we play more we laugh more we live more!!!
Eleuthera – a name that literally means freedom, still exudes pristine natural beauty and colorful local charm.
Established as a playground for the wealthy in the 1960’s, the island of Eleuthera remains largely untouched.
Over the last couple of years, the island has garnered renewed interest as its untouched beauty is being rediscovered by privileged travelers from around the world.
The New York Times described Eleuthera as having “self-evident allure with pink sandy beaches as far as the eye can see”.
Eleuthera is an island in the Bahamas, about 50 miles (80 km) east of Nassau.
Eleuthera is long and thin—110 miles long.
The population of this Bahamian island is 8,000.
The population of Governor’s Harbour (pictured here) is 843.
The name “Eleuthera” is derived from the Greek word for “free.”
The island’s main settlements are Governor’s Harbour, Palmetto Point, Rock Sound, and Tarpum Bay
Harbour Island (pictured to the left) just off the northern tip of Eleuthera, is known for its unusual pink sand beaches and exclusive hotels.
The island’s best known export is pineapples and lobster.
Everyday brings something new and exciting...for instance just watching Brutus getting used to his surroundings sniffing everything in sight or chasing a fly is interesting. In Florida there is hardly an insect in our apartment for him to chase. Here he has a ball watching the buggies from inside.....Normally I am not an outdoors type of person but here somehow it just seems so fitting....I don't mind pulling weeds, using a machete (and I am good at it), hauling sand in a wheelbarrow or anything of the sort...I love every moment of everything we do here and I love to see Brutus watching us every step of the way....I don't mind getting all dirth and sweaty while working...it makes more sense and I feel like I have accomplished so much....
There is a saying that
"Eleuthera is not for everyone" this is very true. If you are the type looking for big malls, huge crowds of people then this is not the place for you. If you cannot just let your hair fly wild in the wind and go out without having to worry about your makeup this for sure is not the place for you.....but f you are like us and are looking for some peace and quiet time away from all the craziness of the world then you have arrived!!!!
People will always say all sorts of stuff. Let them. I'm enjoying my life..
Today has been a very physical day in the sense that we have done a lot of work on the outside. We have pressured cleaned the outside ceilings, pulled weeds and cleared up a few of our lots. Very tiring but overall satisfying and a great workout. Needless to say we are all tanned and glowing with color. 
After all of this work we needed a little pampering...I was in a craving mood for ice-cream....Haagen Daz was calling me. Not a problem. To Sky Beach we went. Was a good time as any to celebrate for a job well done. Arvid and I have a tendency to celebrate just because...does not have to be a special occasion we just make the occasion special. 
After that we just went for a drive and enjoyed the sunset......totally relaxing.....
Use caution when visiting this idyllic island retreat: You might never be able to wear a (business) suit again.
