A Little Humor....

A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.
Nothing like some good humor to get you going and to cheer you up no matter what is happening in your life.  It makes us realize that we sometimes take life too seriously.  Life is to be lived and enjoyed.  We all have different circumstances, but at the end of the day there is always something to be grateful for....

Whenever you are feeling like as if things are getting too much, just take a moment to yourself and put into perspective all you have going for you.  Trust me it helps and it makes you realize that things are not as black as they may appear (could be worse).

A sense of humor is a major defense against minor troubles...

Good With The Not So Good....

There are good and bad times, but our mood changes more often than our fortune...

I have been away for a few days and from Arvid's behaviour you would think I was away for ever. It's good to be home and to be pampered for a while.  Arvid is very happy I'm home so he has made plans for us to go out and do stuff for the day starting with a nice lunch out.  Me, I'm all in.

with the kids in Virginia:)

When I got home Arvid was very excited to show me how he trained Brutus to drink water directly from the bottle sprout rather than from the tub plus some other tricks he taught Brutus.  Seems he and Brutus bonded very well while I was gone.  Always glad about this.

Got caught up with cleaning and laundry.  Seems like he wore all his clothes while I was away.  Anyway, all done with that chore so now to concentrate on other things.

So first things first, we started to look into our trip to New York.  My cousin is getting married in November. I was pretty excited about going to NY because all of my sisters and their family was going to be there.  Well for whatever reason, it seems like as if most of them will no longer be coming to the wedding.  Well not that keen anymore on going although it would have been nice to see all our family.  Maybe spend more time in California when we do go. No matter what we will have fun!

I love New York, but if California come first I would rather spend the extra days in California.  Was my home and it's been a while since I was there.  Easy decision.  New York NO!  California YES! and maybe a few days in LasVegas, if this works out.  Our life is busy!

Now December there is another wedding of another cousin in Orlando.  This one we will definitely make.  Easy since we live in Florida.  Hopefully spend a night or two in Orlando also doing some fun stuff.  House Of  Blues Orlando here we come!

All of a sudden everything seems so very rushed.  So much to do and now the time is short.  Boy living this way sure keeps us on our toes.

Just as we were having a very good day my IPhone gets stolen right out of my back back.  So mad at myself for not being more cautious especially after seeing everything in the news.  Now to get me a new one.  Had just upgraded about a year ago.  Now the IPhone 5 is coming out, but not soon enough.  Well I tried to get one today, but forgot my photo ID at home.  Bottom line no ID no phone.  Tomorrow is another day.  Arvid of course wants to go with me so we can make a deal...I think he is in for a surprise.

A whole evening without my phone...new experience for me.  Can be good as Arvid says.
Have a good day all.  Will relax and enjoy the phone less night:)

Destiny is a good thing to accept when it's going your way. When it isn't, don't call it destiny; call it injustice, treachery, or simple bad luck....

The Boss...

There are moments to indulge and enjoy, but I always know when it's time to go home to the ones you love..

Time to go back home to Arvid and Brutus.
It has been a few very good days with Rima and family.  Now back to enjoy the last bit of our summer in Chicago.  According to Arvid, he and Brutus have bonded even more when I was gone.

Brutus is truly boss at our home.  When he wants something all he has to do is look and either Arvid or I will move.  Even though it was only for a few days I have missed them both and look forward to being home again.

Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do... but how much love we put in that action..

Goodbye...

A man never knows how to say goodbye; a woman never knows when to say it....

Just one word, but so difficult.  Leaving is always the hardest part of a vacation.  Just seeing the tears in Riley's eyes break my heart, but on the bright side, we have had a wonderful few days together and I look forward to our next time.

Until we meet again.  I look forward to this and it makes our goodbye's a little easier.

Every goodbye makes the next hello closer....

Rima and I...

You know full well as I do the value of a sisters' affections: There is nothing like it in this world...

Rima is the last of five girls.  Pampered is putting it mildly.  When we were little girls she and I shared a bedroom.  Even though we are 11 years apart our relationship was beautiful.  You see I was her hero:)) and she my baby sister.

Today she is all grown up.  Three kids of her own, but she still is and will always be my baby sister. Life has changed us all.  Each of us have gone our own ways, but the bond that makes us sisters is as strong as ever between the five of us.  I love you all dearly and you're my best friends!

The next few days I will have the pleasure of being with Rima and family.  I am happy!
Hope you all have as good a day as I will.

Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of.  You know whatever you do, they'll still be there....

Virginia....

The journey not the arrival matters...

Both Arvid and I love to travel.  The where does not matter just the fact that we are on the move makes it fun and when it comes to visiting my family even better.  We just love it!!

Gabby, Riley and Lilly Vade
Just back from our weekend in Niagara Falls, NY and I am ready to be on the move again.  This time on my own, which is OK with me because I am visiting my sister and family and I do enjoy some time alone with them.  Gives us time to do stuff together and to just relax in the evenings.  Gives me time to spend with my niece, Lilly Vade and my nephews Gabby and Riley.  Of course I cannot forget Dexter.

Dexter is just the cutest little thing.  Fluffy and cuddly as can be.  Looking forward to having him on my lap and to maybe taking him out to do his business.  Just a casual visit, but for me these are the best of times.  Times I get to be with my family.   Nothing very long, but enough to make us all have a good time.  I am looking forward to a very good time with all of them...
Remember all, the most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway.
Have a good day!

Having A Good Time!

I would say one of my greatest achievement in life right now - my greatest achievement period is - and I'm still trying to achieve it - is to be a wonderful aunt to my nieces and nephews....

My niece, Gabby and Dexter.  Day one was a total success. Dinner out with everyone then to the mall.  As you can see gabby bought himself a hoodie that covers his entire face.  He could not resist getting his Halloween costume as of right now.
Lilly Vade on the other hand keeps us busy every moment of the day. Poor Dexter is hiding and trying to sleep

Riley at the restaurant keeping busy with his iPod as we wait!

Little excited after all the candy and chocolate auntie gave her!

Finally knocked out in the car!

Gabby in his Halloween maybe outfit!

Dexter just looking to be left alone for a while so he can rest!

Mopes...

Nieces and nephews are the children that we borrow,
Intending not to raise but merely love,
Ever watchful from our open window,
Caring deeply at a slight remove.
Everywhere you go, my love will follow,
Still part of you wherever you may live....

One of the best times I ever have is when I am spending it with my nieces and nephews.  I have been very lucky this summer.  First I was able to spend a few days in North Carolina with Reshma and Sachin.  They live in Vermont and the few days spent with them was special.  As usual Arvid also enjoyed their company and bonded extremely well with Sachin.  They called it a man's thing.

For a week we were lucky to have Danielle come and stay with us in Chicago.  This was also a wonderful time.  We all enjoyed it and look forward to her coming back next year.

nieces and nephews:)
Now I am visiting Rima and family in Virginia.  It's now time to enjoy Gabby, Riley and Lilly Vade.  Gabby was born in Florida and when I met Arvid, Gabby was only a few months old. I saw him grow up, I baby sat him and like all my nieces and nephews he has a special spot in my heart.

Since I only have a few days I want to do so much with them.  I want to take them to their favorite restaurant and to pamper them in any way possible.  Most of all I want to spend time with them, bond with them and to make sure we all have a good time. Unfortunately, Arvid could not make it this time.  He has been gone a little also and has a few things he needs to catch up on.  I don't mind.  Sometimes it's actually OK to go alone.  I have more time to spend and bond with the mopes.

So far, I have not seen my niece and nephew in PR and this makes me sad.  I somehow have to see how and when we can plan a trip to visit them.

Enjoy your day everyone!

A branch of my family tree that i didn't have to birth but, through you i can experience life and childhood again and show you all that you are worth...each of you are my little treasures forever

Last View...

A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions....

The city of Niagara Falls, New York was put on the map by tourism. Plain and simple, the city of about 55,000 grew up around the 2nd largest waterfall in the world. A variety of Niagara Falls, New York hotels are available for honeymooners, tourists and conventioneers who continue to make the Falls one of America’s most treasured destinations.

Seeing the falls is something you should put on your bucket list.  You will not regret it.  Amazing!  If you are brave enough, you can also take the tour along the river.
As the advertisement says,  the incredible natural beauty of the Falls and surrounding area turns everybody into amateur photographers as it is difficult to take a bad picture! For 12,000 years Niagara Falls has been waiting for you to come see her – so why wait!  New experiences, new adventures always good.  The place and the what does not matter.

Soon time to head back home to Brutus.  Have a good day everyone!

Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely...

Relaxed Attitude...

No person in the world ever lost anything by being nice to each other...

People here at the Blues Festival in Niagara Falls are very relaxed.  They enjoy themselves and do not let life stress them out, at least that is the feeling here during the Festival.  Everyone is relaxed, happy and very friendly.  Definitely music puts everyone in a good mood.  People in Chicago are also very friendly and very helpful.

After starting up conversations with just about anyone, (one of my hobbies and something Arvid would prefer I did not do); I notice that they go out of their way to be nice.  Even Arvid cannot say anything about that.  Why even he has chatted up a few people and started up conversations.  This I see him do more and more in Chicago than back in Florida.  Maybe it's the people...so very friendly.

The attitude here right now is simple...there is no attitude and if you have one then just stay home.  No one needs it.  After the Blues Festival, we always find another place to discover.  This is our first year at this location so you never know what can happen after the festival.   Many after parties. Never know who we might see and the music as always good.  Anyway the fun is just in discovering new places and for me, I like to sample different foods while enjoying the music.

Well everyone, have a good day and whatever you do remember to have fun.
May you live in interesting times.
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless

Road Trip...

I travel a lot; I hate having my life disrupted by routine....

Nothing makes Arvid and I happier than the thought of a road trip.  Arvid has made it his job to find places for us to visit (for the music he says).  Never hear me complaining about it.  Luckily we have Hylda to take care of Brutus while we are in Chicago.  She is just great with him and for just a couple of nights I don't feel so bad leaving him alone.  Not like when we go to Norway.  Then it's very long and I do miss him too much.

So far this summer we have not done that many road trips, but now that our time in Chicago is nearing we have a few planned.  As usual, I really don't care where we go as long as we go somewhere.  Right now I would love to discover more of the US.  A few short trips every now and then makes for a perfect summer.  Actually, perfect anytime to break away from the so called routine...

To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted....

Niagara Falls, New York...

Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be....
Life with Arvid is always interesting.  I never know what will happen next and most times I am pleasantly pleased.  For instance just a couple of weeks ago when Danielle was here, we left him alone for a few hours.  When we got back home, asks me if I would like to go to Niagara Falls.  Of course I say yes right away.

Well next thing I know he has found us a Blues Festival to go to.  Me I am happy because I have been wanting to go back to Niagara Falls for the longest time.  It is absolutely beautiful and the view at night is as breath taking as the view during the day.

The thing with Arvid is that whenever I leave him alone for long he gets bored.  Maybe I should cultivate this more.  Hmmmmm....this way maybe I get to go to all the places I want us o see.  I have been telling him for the longest of times about Niagara Falls and am very happy he found something there for us to see.  Win, win for both of us.

I have already gotten him to commit to our California trip and to our New York trip so not doing so bad after all.  Hmmmm...maybe add a little detour to Las Vegas if all works out as planned.
Most of the times he actually is the one who finds all these things going on and would ask if I am interested .  He knows all it takes is about a few seconds for me to say yes.  Guess he counts on that as well.  Plus now we have the stamps...another way to see many places!

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can...

Interesting Articles.....

A man only learns in two ways, one by reading, and the other by association with smarter people...

I read the following articles and maybe it will be of interest to someone.  You never know.
Not really surprised by what I read.

When I read about Pennsylvania I just had to laugh.  You see my brother-in-law (they live in PA) had a few deer encounters on his way home.  Eventually one of the deer ran straight into his car.  The deer was OK and so was he, but the car did not fare so well.  To this day my sister issues deer warnings anytime he goes out.

Awesome is what comes to mind right away.

If you have nothing better to do, here is a good way to "kill" some time.
What can I say?  I have stayed at The Plaza in New York and The St. Regis.

For all who love everything cars.

That's it for today.  Hopefully we will be going back to the pool and hot tub later on today.  Relaxing and a great way to unwind after a long day.  Feeling good right now and hope you are as well.
Have a good day everyone.

Today I Have Missed You....

Ma you are gone  from our lives but you will never be gone from our hearts.  The day god called you home was the day he broke our hearts....

As I was going through some pictures, I came across a picture with me and my grandmother.  This was the last time I saw her alive.  Arvid and I were in Canada.  Arvid took this picture of us on March 12, 2010.  She died shortly afterwards.

She was fragile looking and had lost a lot of weight, yet that did not stop her from being the spunky woman I have always admired.  The few times Arvid has seen her were enough to leave him with a very good impression.  To this day he would say to me, "I liked your grandma.  She reminded me of my grandma."

Ma we all have busy lives, but there are moments when you come into my thoughts and so many memories come to me.  Memories of when I was a child.  Of the times we went fishing with you.  Of the times you fed us from your plate.  The times you told us stories until we would fall asleep.  Stories which to this day my sisters tell to their children.

Today I spent time thinking of you.  Today I wish I could have picked up the phone and call you.  Hear your voice as you said, "hello."
Ma, today I miss you!

When you went away you left an empty space in ours hearts but we filled that spacer with love and memories. We miss your love, your tears, your laughter and your touch but most of all we miss your smile...

Restless Man...

The more interesting life becomes, in other words, the more boredom we are doomed to experience....

calls his truck his office
When I get a bit bored or restless, I usually go to the mall, spend the day and just treat myself to a little something and get this whole boredom out of my system,...usually.

Now when Arvid gets "bored" or more like restless his wants are a little different from mine.  Arvid has a Pick Up truck which he really likes, but every so often he says he wants something faster, sleeker and sportier.  Well the last two weeks he has been in this frame of mind.

Let me tell you he dedicates a lot of time surfing for this car, boat or whatever that will fill his needs.  Did I happen to mention that the only way he would get the car/item was if he were able to trade for it.  Oh yes, Arvid is a big time trader and once he has decided to do a trade nothing gets in his way.

The only one that suffers is me, Brutus and of course Arvid.   By suffering I mean there is this tenseness in the air.  Brutus senses it and hides.  I sense and of course with all my questions I make it only worse and more tense, but what can I say I always have to know what's going on.  Arvid "suffers" because he is too impatient.  When he wants something he wants it right now (hmmm..., sounds like me).

1934 Ford
This need sometimes can go on for weeks, or sometimes he just will get caught up in something else and will forget all about wanting a car, boat etc....  The last time we got a boat he was all smiles.  A month after that we were all ready to change it for something else and he did.  Arvid actually traded that boat for a condo.  Later I think we traded or maybe sold the condo for something else.  For him the thrill lies more in doing the trade rather than owning the actual object.

He is happiest when a deal is completed...I am happy because usually this restlessness of his is not a frequent thing.  The last few times he had this need we were the owners of an SL500, another time we owned a 1934 Ford.  He never saw the Ford, but still bought it.  The car was too small for him.  I am sure he will never learn, but he is always happy even when the deal does not work out because then he has something else to look forward to...the perpetual Optimist.  Life for sure is never boring....

I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination...

Wave Pier - Florida

The most successful people in the world are the ones who run with what they have. They don't wait for "perfect." They run with "imperfect" and accomplish "unbelievable....

Who knew a pier could do so much! Looping vertically into the ocean like a 360-degree stunt ramp, the Wave Pier by Mesh Architects can, not only host outdoor concerts, it can also act as an artificial second beach. The Wave Pier was Mesh Architects'entry for St. Peterburg’s design competition to create a new cultural centre for the city

.
Still in the works, the City of St. Petersburg, Florida has $50 million set aside for a new pier, but will it be The Wave, The Lens or the People's Pier featuring the Eye.

There's also a harbor and boat docks. On land, the designers have proposed an amphitheater and retail space.  Should this be built, it would be a beautiful sight.

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it...

Labor Day Weekend....

Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken...

Labor Day is an American  federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September.  This is usually a three day weekend with many having Monday off.
Labor Day Weekend symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, parades and all sorts of sports events. In high society, Labor Day is (or was) considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable to wear white.

For many college kids, this is a weekend to head home and have some family time.   Fun at the beach, BBQ's and that sort of thing.  It's also a perfect time for retail business since this is probably one of the biggest sale date during the year.  Second only to Christmas and Black Friday.  I made sure I got my Labor Day purse:)

Arvid and I are spending it quietly at home with Brutus.  Last night we saw the fireworks from our living room.  We had a very nice dinner out and spent the evening relaxing at home watching movies with Brutus.

A little Soccer today and if the weather is not too bad maybe out for lunch, but judging from the sky, I think it will be another indoor kind of day with the hot tub in the afternoon.  Not bad.

Hope everyone has had a good time so far.
Enjoy!

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow....

Nirvana Kimberly....

A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work...

Kimsy as I call her lives in Puerto Rico.  She was born there 15 years ago and is my second eldest niece.  She is the daughter of my sister Nirvana.  Kimsy is the jet setter of our family.  Almost from the day she was born she was on the move.

Winter vacations in Aspen and Vail, Colorado nothing unusual for her.  Living in Puerto Rico, where the sun never stops shining you would not believe how good she is at winter sports...among other things.

Just 15 and she has already done so much in her life.  One month every summer she spends in Europe learning a new language and of course travelling around meeting new people and making new friends.  Like all my nieces,
Kimsy is one of the sweetest girls you will meet.  The times Arvid and I have been together to Puerto Rico, we have been to her school together with my sister to pick her up.  The smile on her face is what I always remember best, and of course the hugs.

As of the last 2 years Kimsy has been taking a modelling classes with one of the top notch modelling schools in Puerto Rico.  Little by little the classes that began as fun suddenly became more and more a challenge to her.  Kimsy was featured in many local fashion shows in the island.  She modeled for magazines, stores and did opening acts for other fashion shows.  She was excited, but at the same time a little overwhelmed.  Sometimes she was even allowed to keep some of the clothes and if she could not her daddy bought it for her.

She is shy and does not like to tell this to anyone.  Of course I knew about it for a while and being me I had to tell it to everyone because I am proud of all my nieces and nephews and each accomplishment of theirs is something I want to share.

As I mentioned, what began as fun soon started to get serious.  Suddenly there was one little competition, she won that, then another and another...yes she won those as well.  Being part of Elite Model was becoming serious.  Suddenly she found herself among 130 girls in a competition to be the Elite Model for Puerto Rico.  She did not tell this to anyone, but my sister just called and told me that Kimsy made it to the semi-finals.  She was one of 30 girls chosen.

As far as I am concerned she is a winner.  She is full of determination and strenght and that makes her a one of a kind in my book.  She is in her last year of high school and is the president of her class. She is in the honor roll.  Of course as all kids her age there is a lot of "social" things going on with friends as well.  Makes for a busy life not only for her but for her mom as well.

If she makes it as the top model for Elite, we would all be ecstatic, but either way she has gone far with something that started out as fun.  Kimsy has been having a great time with it.  She has made tons of new friends and will always be featured in fashion shows.  That by itself is an accomplishment, but just keeping my fingers crossed for her.  Kimsy, good luck and I want you to be the next top Elite Model.  Your mom says that John Casablancas will be coming to the island to see the "show."
Good luck and remember we love you and I always smile when I think of you.  Want you to win and to go to Shanghai for that photo shoot!

I know she's growing up fast, but in my eyes I still see a little girl.  I love you Kimsy.
May all your dreams come true whatever they may be.
Have a nice day!

If you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams.  We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort...
