Walgreens...

Change always comes bearing gifts...

Arvid and I had a few chores to do yesterday, and as usual we walk to everything.  One of our stops was the neighborhood Walgreen's.  This Walgreen's is actually new for us.  Last year in the same location was a dress store.  Yes, things change.

I told Arvid I would like to check it out because I remember the dress store being pretty big with two levels, and was wondering if the same would be for Walgreen's.  Anyway, I had a few things on our list, stuff we were taking back with us to Norway.  Let's just say that in Norway you would probably pay four times the price as you do here for the same item, and we are just talking makeup stuff here.  Everything is expensive in Norway.

So we go in, boy what a surprise it was.  This was like no Walgreen's I have ever seen in my life.  This 27,000 square feet Walgreen's in the heart of the Loop offers a helluva lot more than prescriptions, deodorant and eyeliner.
This new store serves as a model for possible future stores of this kind, but for now, it all belongs to Chicago. And if residents take to it, they could be in for some really great things that have never before been found at a Walgreen's

This place has it all: sushi, self-serve froyo, a barista-helmed coffee bar, a bakery with fresh pastries and sandwiches made on site, a juice bar, fresh produce, cheeses and cured meats, a massive selection of wine and spirits and more.
I thought I died and went to heaven.  There was so much to check out just on the first level.  Both Arvid and I looked at each other and said, "this is like no Walgreen's I know."  Absolutely one of a kind.
To stay fresh, Walgreen's is appealing to a broader market and looks to become more of a one-stop lifestyle brand. In addition to the food offerings, it will also have a humidor for cigars, an international newsstand, a nail bar where you can stop in for a manicure, eyebrow shaping or other services and more. The store is open from 6:30 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Need I say more?

I can see me going there quite often this summer....

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies...

until next time...
